Star Wars Uncut
Casey Pugh is an Emmy Award-winning technologist who is passionate about all aspects of computing, from programming, video editing, hacking hardware to web design. Understanding the possibilities of the web and its limitations, Casey is focused on creating innovative products that enhance our daily lives. In 2007, Pugh was one of the original developers of video-sharing website Vimeo.com, helping focus and shape the product for three years and creating the widely-emulated Vimeo video player. Casey has gained a reputation for being able to fuse creativity with deep technological expertise. In his spare time Casey loves to push the boundaries of technology. His interest in crowd-sourcing and film collaboration led to the development of his next major project, StarWarsUncut.com, a crowd-sourced remake of "Star Wars: A New Hope." In August 2010 Star Wars Uncut was awarded a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Interactive Media, the first time a website for a internet-only production has won an Emmy. SWU has been featured in the NYTimes, LATimes, NPR, CNN International, Wired, IFC, Current.com and many more. Passionate about the future of TV, Casey left Vimeo in late 2009 to become the head of web development at Boxee, a company focused on bringing online video into the living room. Pugh also does consulting and development work for Hollywood studios and major TV networks to create innovative technology products for their audiences. Pugh is currently developing a new product called VHX.tv, which lets you watch videos anywhere, anytime, on- or offline. Track videos you watch, save videos for later, then kick back with VHX on your computer, smart phone or TV. Casey lives in Brooklyn and works out of General Assembly in Union Square, a community of entrepreneurs, technologists, and designers.
