WIC Agency Presents:
4 Fresh / Noisy / Extremely Loud bands come to tear down a coffee shop.
DRIDER (Austin, TX) - http://www.reverbnation.com/drider - (ON STAGE AT: 21:00)
Drider was formed in Austin TX by Dylan Donovan and Nathan Rhodes and was playing shows as a two piece after a blitzkrieg month of rehearsals. Once they got on their feet they quickly decided to expand their sound by bringing in session bassist George Brown-Lohr as a full time member and metal tinged drummer Adrian Bernal lent a stronger rhythm section to the band. Described by sound-men as "Brutally Loud" Drider relish in their noisy roots but reflect diverse influences such as Loop, Bardo Pond, and Electric Wizard, to bring a new experience of guitar rock to their unwitting audience. Formed and based in Austin TX, Drider began recording their first Album in 2010 and released it New Years Eve of that year.
run,WALK! (Winchester, UK) - http://runwalk.tumblr.com/ - (ON STAGE AT: 20:15)
Run, WALK! could be the loudest band you'll hear at this year's SXSW. They are also one of the most promising. In a crank it up as far as it will go, you're either with us or against us kind of way. Matthew Pickering-Copley (bass, vocals) and Tom Clements (drums) have been battering UK and European audiences with their bass-led artrock for several years. They couple distortion, feedback and a megaton of low-end crunch with sharp hooks and stop-start rhythms. This is equal parts cerebral and fun rock and roll made by musicians too young to order drinks at the bar . Back in their home country, the Run, WALK! boys have established themselves as frontrunners of the underground music scene. They formed as teenagers in the southern city of Winchester. It wasn't long until they were snapped up by hip hardcore label Holy Roar (Gallows, Rolo Tomassi, The Ghost of a Thousand). Shortly afterwards they released the seven-track EP 'I Hope This All Works Out So I Can Stop Standing on Even Amounts of Manholes in the Street' to critical acclaim. Reviewers praised their musical ecclecticism and unrelenting execution, likening them to a young Lightning Bolt. Less than 12 months later they released an instrumental four-track, shortly followed by the free for download Peekay in December. These guys are noisy. Like, NOISY noisy. They take no prisoners. All they want is to batter your ear drums and have a good time. Best get on board.
Unspeakable Things (Austin, TX) - http://www.myspace.com/thebonedragonslair - (ON STAGE AT: 19:30)
Modern Time Machines (Los Angeles, CA) - www.moderntimemachines.com - (ON STAGE AT: 18:45)
After successfully self-releasing their first demo, Concept Car, in 2007, Los Angeles-based band Modern Time Machines established themselves as local favorites, receiving regular airplay on KROQ’s Locals Only radio show (and being voted #1 on May 16 and October 17, 2010), and playing L.A.
venues such as Spaceland and Silverlake Lounge alongside acts including Light FM,Nightmare Air, and Twilight Sleep. The band is rounded out by Nicole Smith on bass,Dean Estrella on drums and Chanda Dancy on violin, keyboards and vocals. All four members contribute their own unique sensibilities and styles to the songs, helping to create a dynamic sense of variety and urgency in MTM's music.
The band has been widely praised for its live shows, and Kevin Bronson of Buzzbands.la has stated that MTM’s “cocktail of fuzzed-out dissonance and cirrus melody gets sweeter with each outing...fans of Swervedriver, Medicine and [Smashing Pumpkins] should take note." In addition, local tastemaker blog Radio Free Silver Lake named MTM as one of their "Bands to Watch Out for in 2010."
MTM are currently completing their highly anticipated debut release with producers Josiah Mazzaschi (Light FM, The Pity Party, Tigers Can Bite You) and Steven Rhodes (Silversun Pickups, Darker My Love, Twilight Sleep).
