Who: Entrepreneurs, startups, press, lurkers, and ambitious upstarts. How: Beer, awesome interviews and amazing people. Details Think of it as the Mixergy you love...live and in person...with top interviewees...and drinks. Making it possible Three people offered to sponsor the event and make it possible. Chris Savage, Wistia's founder, volunteered to sponsor before I even knew where or when it'll take place. (Wistia is the video platform I use for all of Mixergy's videos. Try it and you'll see why.) Ben Welch-Bolen, CEO of Site5 Hosting, is a guy I personally asked over dinner to do a Mixergy interview but he refused because he's not ready to reveal how well Site5 is doing. (If you come, please help me persuade him.) Josh Kaufman is the author of Personal MBA, the Amazon.com Business Management Bestseller. After spending 5 minutes on the phone with him, I practically begged Josh to teach me. I think you'll want to grab his book. Todd Garland, the Founder of BuySellAds.com, bought my last sponsorship spot. How fitting! Did you know there's a page on his site where you can see how much ad money he generates for every one of the publishers in his network? Before you buy or sell an online ad, check this page out. Credit where it's due The idea for this event wasn't mine. These two guys cooked it up and are helping me put it together. Noah Kagan - the founder of Killer Web Deals site, AppSumo.com and RewardLevel.com Damon Clinkscales - a software developer and community shepherd in Austin who is also a huge Mixergy fan. He loves to bring people together.
Pat Ramsey, of the Austin WordPress Meetup, and I agreed that SXSW Interactive 2011 would be the perfect place to host another party. I then contacted Jason and Aaron at WP Engine, and they said:Count us in!
We picked a date and I contacted John Wickham to reserve Elysium for the event. When you combine Austin's WordPress community with all the WordPress users coming to Austin for SXSW, you'll need a big venue. Elysium is 3 blocks from the convention center, has a great stage and sound system, and can hold hundreds.
Like last year, there will be no schwag and no social media people -- just Data Geeks talking about Data. We know that quite a few people weren't able to attend last year because we maxed out the venue. So for the 2011 party, we've reserved Elysium for the evening. How many hundred Data Geeks fit into Elysium? Play it safe and RSVP now. The party will be free for all SXSW Interactive attendees.
SXSW Interactive is the week immediately following DrupalCon Chicago, and we're going to both. You should too.
DrupalCon ends on Thursday. SXSW begins on Friday, and runs until Tuesday. We're throwing the party on a Monday night, so you'll have a few days to recover from DrupalCon. Good luck with that.
Austin is home to SXSW Interactive AND the largest DrupalCamp to date. We expect this to be a huge bash, so we reserved Elysium -- which is three blocks from the convention center and holds a whole lotta people.
Hope you can join us!
