3 schedule::attendees
Location
Austin Convention Center, Room 18ABC
Speaker Chris M Junior, Bruce Warren, Akina Adderley
event::about Like Motown was to Detroit and Stax was to Memphis, Philadelphia International Records gave the City of Brotherly Love a label to proudly call its own - and one that produced a distinct, successful brand of R&B/soul. With their sophisticated, seductive, string-laden musical foundation (which was typically married with poignant lyrical content), Philadelphia International's Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff created what's known worldwide as "The Sound of Philadelphia." Gamble and Huff helped make stars of The O'Jays, Teddy Pendergrass and Billy Paul during the 1970s and played a key role in reviving the careers of The Jacksons, Lou Rawls and Jerry Butler. 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of Philadelphia International. The songwriting/production partners still operate out of Philly and continue to make their presence felt in the music industry.
