As we've done for the last three years, we've set up a lunch for Refreshers from around the world on Friday, March 11th from 11:30 to 2:30pm, to kick off SXSW Interactive. Even better, they're giving us happy hour prices and may throw in some appetizers. If you have any questions, please let me know. Who: Entrepreneurs, startups, press, lurkers, and ambitious upstarts. How: Beer, awesome interviews and amazing people. Details Think of it as the Mixergy you love...live and in person...with top interviewees...and drinks. Making it possible Three people offered to sponsor the event and make it possible. Chris Savage, Wistia's founder, volunteered to sponsor before I even knew where or when it'll take place. (Wistia is the video platform I use for all of Mixergy's videos. Try it and you'll see why.) Ben Welch-Bolen, CEO of Site5 Hosting, is a guy I personally asked over dinner to do a Mixergy interview but he refused because he's not ready to reveal how well Site5 is doing. (If you come, please help me persuade him.) Josh Kaufman is the author of Personal MBA, the Amazon.com Business Management Bestseller. After spending 5 minutes on the phone with him, I practically begged Josh to teach me. I think you'll want to grab his book. Todd Garland, the Founder of BuySellAds.com, bought my last sponsorship spot. How fitting! Did you know there's a page on his site where you can see how much ad money he generates for every one of the publishers in his network? Before you buy or sell an online ad, check this page out. Credit where it's due The idea for this event wasn't mine. These two guys cooked it up and are helping me put it together. Noah Kagan - the founder of Killer Web Deals site, AppSumo.com and RewardLevel.com Damon Clinkscales - a software developer and community shepherd in Austin who is also a huge Mixergy fan. He loves to bring people together.

Introducing the Maple Leaf Digital Lounge: at the South by Southwest Interactive Conference. The Maple Leaf Digital Lounge (MLDL) is a pioneering event to be held during the Interactive portion of the 2011 South by Southwest Conference (SXSW) with the intent to highlight and promote innovative Canadian companies to the attendees of the SXSW conference (mainly professionals from the marketing, web development, mobile, software development, social media, gaming, digital media and venture capital). We are creating a cluster of Canadian technology that will be promoted at this event. This is a unique concept and Canada is the only country to host “a lounge” at this conference. It will act as a catalyst in promoting Canadian innovation to a large technology & media audience.
Currently, the MLDL is looking for Canada’s top “Interactive” companies. Do you have cutting edge “commercial ready” technology and looking to promote your company (technology) at the South by Southwest Conference? By “Commercial Ready”, we mean technology that has been developed and is currently generating revenue or will be within 6 months. We want to hear from digital media technology companies focused in the following industries: social media, mobile, marketing, multi-media, game development, web development or any related IT areas. At the event, each company will have a table set up/booth to showcase their technology over a two-day period.
What is South by Southwest?
South by Southwest (SXSW) is a set of film, interactive and music festivals and conferences that take place every spring in Austin, Texas, United States. SXSW first began in 1987 and is centered on the downtown Austin Convention Center. Each of the three parts runs independently, with different start and end dates. SXSW Interactive has attracted a strong following among web creators and entrepreneurs. SXSW Interactive's focus on emerging technology has earned the festival a reputation as a breeding ground for new ideas and creative technologies. Twitter launched at SXSW Interactive in 2007.
Submission details: Submit a one page executive summary highlighting the technology or service that you want to display at the Maple Leaf Digital Lounge. This document should list the principals/management team of the company, the company website and any other related details of the technology.
http://www.mapleleafdigitallounge.com/apply.php
Are you heading down to SXSW and are interested in supporting fellow Canadians, or want to check out some new innovative digital technology? Stop by the lounge, let us know you are coming and add yourself to our attendee list: http://eventmobi.com/mldl/attendee_edit/771

That time of year is here again, where we in the Austin JavaScript community close our laptops and instead have a few beers together. After such a successful event last year at Kung Fu Saloon, we decided to do the same thing this year, but with more reasons to come out and support the community.
First, this year, we will be requiring attendees to either have an official SXSW badge or two cans of food to donate to the Capital Area Food Bank. With such a huge turnout last year, why wouldn’t we use this as an opportunity to raise awareness and help stamp out hunger in the greater Austin area. A party with a cause! Party details are as follows:
- Free Texas Beer
- Free Authentic Tex-Mex Tacos courtesy of Torchy’s Tacos
- Free Gaming at Kung Fu Saloon including Skeeball and all Vintage Arcade Games
- Free No Strings-Attached Door Prize Giveaways Every Hour (iPad, Android Tablet, Amazon Kindle, Microsoft Kinect, a ticket to TXJS and possibly more)
- Free Swag Bags to Take Home full of Goodies
Of course none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our gracious sponsors: Microsoft (IE Team), Solvate, Mozilla (Developer Engagement), TekSystems and Cultivate PR.
Microsoft will actually be out engaging and entertaining all who attend to check out the latest version of IE9 and to assist developers preparing their sites and apps now. You do know that IE9 is at release candidate state, right?

For the first time ever, SuperHappyDevHouse is coming to SXSW! Join us for an evening of hacking, revelry, LEGO® MINDSTORMs® roboticking, and good times that the Silicon Valley event is known for the world over.Don't miss this!
What is SuperHappyDevHouse?
The original idea for SHDH was something like “20% time for people who don’t work at Google” (even though the event wasn’t founded by Googlers). The event has since evolved into a monthly collaborative event for exchanging ideas, working together, and celebrating the spirit of the independent, DIY hacker.
The DevHouse will kick off at 7pm following the transition from the Google Developer Event. We will open the event with welcome remarks, an overview of the venue and what’s happening where and follow with a vivid retelling (and slideshow) of the history of DevHouse, beginning with its roots in Silicon Valley and spreading worldwide. We’ll also describe the LEGO® hackathon taking place on the third floor throughout the event and invite participation. We’ll close by thanking each sponsor and announcing the sponsored drinks; food will be served and all three bars will open.
Around 8:15pm we’ll prep for lightning talks on the main stage on the first floor. We expect fast-paced, intelligent, funny, and clever talks to run one after another — no more than 5 minutes each — covering subjects like tech hacks, big ideas, best practices, crazy experiences, or other topics that might interest the varied DevHouse audience.
7:00 PM
to 1:30 AM
Cut Chemist
Ever wondered what Family Feud with all your favorite tech giants would look like? Well wonder no more. We’ll have some of the largest tech giants on stage competing for the ultimate bragging rights as to who’s the smartest at SXSW.
Not just content with putting them under the spotlight, we’ll have entertainment from master turntablist Cut Chemist and special guests: DJ Orion and local Austin favorites Fresh Millions.
The bar will, of course, be open and the brisket will be ready! This is one party you won’t want to miss.
*Note: Your SXSW IA, GOLD or PLATINUM badge is your ticket when you arrive, but please RSVP to be added to the guest list. Entry will be on a first come, first served basis.

Ted Leo:
Ted Leo is a unique artist for these times. He provides a near perfect combination of politics, art, punk values and humor in his songwriting and the combination is resonating with people all over the world. Having toiled for years in the punk underground with both his former band Chisel and his solo effort Ted Leo/Pharmacists, now is definitely the time that Ted Leo is primed to break out into the mainstream. He's been praised by Spin Magazine, MTV, Rolling Stone, Magnet, New York Times and been a guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
The Dig:
Members of The Dig have played music together since they were ten years old. Originally from the New York City area, these guys have created an devotional following which led them to get signed by Paradigm Talent Agency. Their songs such as "Carry me home" and "Two Sisters" will leave you in a hypnotic trance from the explosive climaxes.
Bad Veins:
Bad Veins are a rarity in today’s musical landscape: An act who didn’t set out to become critical darlings or the next “buzz” band, but managed to achieve both after only playing a handful of shows. However, despite the fact that Bad Veins’ music has been instantly embraced since their inception in late 2006, the duo of Benjamin Davis and Sebastien Schultz decided not to rush out the disc you’re currently holding in your hand. The result is Bad Veins, an album that’s unique but familiar, and not only lives up to the hype but surpasses it. Looking back, it’s hard to believe it all started out a little over two years ago in a non-descript attic in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Lemurs:
Coming up at a time when the dance-rock wave was reaching its crest, the Lemurs initially drew comparisons to Bloc Party, The Faint, Franz Ferdinand, and the Killers. But for every synth melody or dance beat employed, the Lemurs find a counterbalance of raw, driving guitar and frenetic rhythm that imbues their music with a crackling atmospheric sheen and anxious intensity. The result is a fast paced, layered sound that owes as much to the pop lushness of My Morning Jacket as to the broader explorations of Television. With the recent addition of What Made Milwaukee Famous singer Michael Kingcaid, The Lemurs are back in the studio recording a full-length set for 2011 release. They are also based in Austin, TX.
Ted Leo will be performing live along with other famous bands. This is a free show being hosted by Wearcast.
This is the Official Launch Party of Wearcast so be sure to plan on coming.
Wearcast is a simple way to take a thought, statement and expression and turn it into a designer quality t-shirt instantly. No design skills are required and its as easy as sending a tweet or updating your Facebook status.

Austin Texas is known for a few important things: breakfast tacos, warm weather, and a little gathering known as South By Southwest, a meeting of music and technology for a week-long party consisting of thousands of bands playing hundreds of shows every day across the city. Our day parties will feature performances from the likes of Datarock, The Submarines, Hieroglyphics, Matt Nathanson,The Rural Alberta Advantage, The Boxer Rebellion, and many many many more (see the list below).
The shows are happening at The Phoenix (409 B. Colorodo St.) from 12 to 7 PM, Tuesday 3/15 through Friday, 3/18. The parties are sponsored by Baeblemusic, as well as Lexus, MOG and ROKU.

It is Year 4, as once again Music Fog takes the stage in the Saloon Room at Threadgill's WHQ(AKA&. the back room, on the stage against the ruby velvet curtains,) 301 W. Riverside, in South Austin TX. It is an unofficial showcase so no badges or wristbands are necessary, just a desire to eat some good ole homemade food, and see some cooking music. We at Music Fog put the four day schedule together, and our video cameras will be rolling as we gather content for www.musicfog.com. Most times we do our thing behind closed doors, but this gig, we invite you to come and hang in the room for our taping. The Music Fog Motto, after all, is "How Hard Could It Be&.." and the answer, at least when we come to Threadgills is, "Pretty Damn Easy!" What with onsite parking, air conditioning, any drink of any color that you might want, Southern home-style fare with loads of vegetables, and the ever important indoor plumbing with those fancy new 'no hands towel machines. I don't know, they just intrigue me! And really, why would you even think of going anywhere else?

Austin Texas is known for a few important things: breakfast tacos, warm weather, and a little gathering known as South By Southwest, a meeting of music and technology for a week-long party consisting of thousands of bands playing hundreds of shows every day across the city. Last year we took Texas with one day, and this year, we're claiming four.
Each day will feature a variety of great bands, including a party for all you Interactive folks on Tuesday, and a day entirely devoted to the best hip-hop Austin has to offer on Wednesday. The parties are sponsored by Baeblemusic, as well as Lexus, MOG and ROKU.
RSVP to our events at Eventbrite and on Facebook. And don't forget to download our iPhone app to stay up to date with the latest news and schedule/set times!

How are paradigms shifting within underground media as accessibility increases around the globe? How are original artforms and communities emerging and evolving within these invisible cities?

Is there a better way to celebrate the up-and-coming talent of the Boston music scene at SXSW than with a rowdy party on St. Patrick's Day? Probably not, so swing by the roof of The 512 for the musical stylings of Bostonian favorites Viva Viva, The Dirty Dishes, Bodega Girls, Mystery Roar, Mean Creek, Kingsley Flood, Static of the Gods, Banditas, Endless Wave and DJ Die Young. Shoegaze, deep disco, fuzzy guitars, post-Americana, sharp spinning, electronic tendencies, soaring voices: It's all there in the lineup, and Converse and DigBoston.com are bringing it from Boston to Austin.

Our day parties will feature performances from the likes of Datarock, The Submarines, Hieroglyphics, Matt Nathanson,The Rural Alberta Advantage, The Boxer Rebellion, and many many many more (see the list below).
The shows are happening at The Phoenix (409 B. Colorado St.) from 12 to 7 PM, Tuesday 3/15 through Friday, 3/18.
We've got a ton more surprises for you. Stay tuned for more information to roll out as the week unfolds!

Fourteen years ago, when South By Southwest was not yet the music industry juggernaut it is today, Schubas decided to showcase some of the best Chicago bands making the 1,170-mile trek to Austin, TX. Thursday was deemed the perfect day to welcome all SXSW attendees. Good music, along with BBQ, beer and booze seemed the most appropriate formula, thus an annual event- and one ofSXSW’s first daytime parties- was born.
Since 1996, as beer-drenched-SXSW-day-parties became customary, Schubas’ national prominence has evolved and so has our annual SXSW Round-Up. The party still features Chicago bands, but also includes a large array of popular acts from throughout the world, who have played, or will be playing, Lincoln Hall or Schubas. The BBQ, beer and booze remain firmly intact.

Home Slice Pizza is stoked to announce Music by the Slice 2011. This free day party (no rsvp, no badge required) runs March 17-19, from 1 PM to 7 PM daily. This year, for the first time, we are donating all of the profits from bar sales to charity!!!
Our charity for 2011 are the excellent folks over at Urban Roots – a sustainable farming program for young Austinites. Here is a little bit about them:
Now in our fourth year, Urban Roots is a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people and increases the access of healthy food in Austin. By growing sustainably farmed vegetables, young people work together to serve the community, cultivate farming and business skills, learn the value of meaningful work, and discover how to eat and cook in healthy ways.

This inaugural event will be held on Thursday, March 17th (St.Patrick’s day) at the Lanai Rooftop Lounge in downtown Austin and will showcase 8 of our favorite and very talented bands from across the country. The lineup will span our diverse interest in music genres with the bands Family of the Year, Pepper Rabbit, Inspired Flight, Slang Chickens, Pujol, Sundelles, Hi Ho Silver OH, and Solace and Fury.
Oh, and did we mention that there will be free Texas barbecue from the one and only Louie Miller? How about wildly cheap Vodka specials from Pearl Vodka for the early comers? Yes there will be.
