Spank Rock

Naeem Juwan, a.k.a. Spank Rock, has served as a vanguard of hip hop since his 2006 debut LP, the cult favorite "Yoyoyoyoyo." That album, produced by Alex "XXXChange" Epton, established its place in hip hop history for its innovative synthesis of electronic dance music and rap genres, and for Juwan's singular voice, which combined raunchy, provocative party raps with intellectually, politically, and emotionally charged content. Born and raised in West Baltimore, Juwan moved to Philadelphia and helped fuel the city's music and party scene alongside Diplo, Amanda Blank, and Santigold. After the success of "Yoyoyoyoyo," Spank Rock partnered up with fledgling pop producer Benny Blanco to release 2008's "Bangers and Cash EP", an X-rated homage to Miami booty bass. In 2011, Spank Rock went on to work with a new cast of collaborators including German techno producer Boys Noize, LE1F, and Big Freedia to create "Everything Is Boring and Everything is a Fucking Liar," his most adventurous release yet. Teleporting from New Orleans bounce ("Nasty feat. Big Freedia") to Philly noise rock ("DTF DADT"), to radio pop ("Car Song ft. Santigold"), the album confirmed Spank Rock’s commitment to creating music that is experimental, soulful and wild. At SXSW this year, Spank Rock will be performing unreleased tracks from a soon-to-be-announced EP slated for a Spring 2014 release. In the meantime, check out Spank Rock's acclaimed recent appearances on Wet's "No Lie (Noah Breakfast Remix ft. Spank Rock)" and his new single "We Can Go All Nite Long feat. Amanda Blank."
