New York has Fashion Week, Austin has Style By.
But Style X will not only champion the emerging trends in Austin’s style sphere, but also the imaginative and noteworthy talents from across the globe. Debuting during the 25th Anniversary of South by Southwest Music, Style X is the next and natural evolution of the internationally-renowned festival and conference.
Style X includes a pop-up retail showcase that will serve as the official shopping experience of SXSW with dozens of brands from around the country bringing the latest designs in screenprinting and design, women’s, menswear, streetwear, swimwear and accessories. Also, Style By will host multiple fashion shows, each celebrating a different segment of style. Stay tuned for more information on the runway shows.
Music has always been a source for fashion trends and style and Style X is the world’s first event bringing those two together with a keen focus on the up-and-coming. Just as the music, film and technology makers reflect the innovative and creative capital of their respective industries, Style X will represent the inventive and inspired work of style makers from all over the world. They will be from places as far as Houston and Hong Kong and they will offer everything from eyeglasses and t-shirts to dresses and sneakers. The style will be by them, but this event will be for you.

Mantralogy to Bring Mantra Music to SXSW
IMPRINT RECORD LABEL TEAMS UP WITH WHOLE FOODS TO BRING A PIECE OF OM TO AUSTIN, TX
Mantralogy will bring fresh vibes to SXSX 2011, with their youthful brand of Mantra Music and clothing. The imprint label, of legendary rock label Equal Vision Records, promises to bring something new, something different – and something peaceful to the festival. Mantralogy will focus on their ultimate goal of uplifting and positively transforming the foundation of people’s hearts through music, lifestyle products, and events that support the growing culture of Mantra Music.
For their debut SXSW appearance, Mantralogy has teamed up with Whole Foods Market and local yoga studio, Black Swan, to host a string of showcases and events. “We intend to offer a peaceful breather during the non-stop rock marathon,” states Mantralogy and Equal Vision Records’ owner, Steve Reddy. “We want to create a place at SXSW for music industry people to share their love of music and yoga.”
Whole Foods Market representative Richard Gabaree adds, “The wondrous sights, sounds, smells and activity in the store make each trip to Whole Foods Market Lamar a tour of discovery. We are so excited to add Mantralogy to our list of events during SXSW and look forward to their contribution to our guests’ experience.”
Mantralogy artists, The Mayapuris, will be performing at Whole Foods Market on Thursday, March 17 at 5:30pm and at Black Swan Yoga on Friday, March 18 at 8:00pm, joined by labelmates, SRI Kirtan. SRI Kirtan will also be performing at Whole Foods Market on Saturday March 19 from 12:00pm – 2:-00pm.
The Mayapuris, kirtan’s youthful breakout band, have been touring non-stop behind their debut album Mridanga touching six continents including stops at Wanderlust (alongside Moby), The Bhakti Fest, Princeton University and Jivamukti NYC. SRI Kirtan bring a fresh sound to the Mantra Music scene combining a variety of western instruments and styles with traditional chants and melodies. Their second album, Live Your Love, recently debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard World Music Chart.
Mantralogy combines an edgy, punk rock attitude and underground DIY ethos with the ancient uplifting philosophies and culture of spirituality, yoga, conscious living and Mantra Music. Mantra Music, or Kirtan, is an ancient form of music heard in yoga classes around the world.

The show will take place in the center of the complex, where there is a large in-ground pool, hot tub, huge stage, BBQ pits, and volleyball court (although I think we may be turning the court into the graffiti exhibition area). The people of Metropolis (both residents and employees) are great peeps who love good music and having fun.... we intend to supply both.
Please be EXTREMELY respectful of the property and the people at Metropolis. This event is BYOB, but there is NO GLASS ALLOWED. Please, NO weapons, NO bad attitudes, and NO unsanctioned graffiti.

Now in our fourth year, Urban Roots is a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people and increases the access of healthy food in Austin. By growing sustainably farmed vegetables, young people work together to serve the community, cultivate farming and business skills, learn the value of meaningful work, and discover how to eat and cook in healthy ways.

Our charity for 2011 are the excellent folks over at Urban Roots – a sustainable farming program for young Austinites. Here is a little bit about them:
Now in our fourth year, Urban Roots is a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people and increases the access of healthy food in Austin. By growing sustainably farmed vegetables, young people work together to serve the community, cultivate farming and business skills, learn the value of meaningful work, and discover how to eat and cook in healthy ways.

They will be from places as far as Houston and Hong Kong and they will offer everything from eyeglasses and t-shirts to dresses and sneakers. The style will be by them, but this event will be for you.

By growing sustainably farmed vegetables, young people work together to serve the community, cultivate farming and business skills, learn the value of meaningful work, and discover how to eat and cook in healthy ways.

The debut release of Kansas City band Capybara is filled to the brim with jangly synth melodies, light falsetto harmonies, and a syncopated percussive style that perpetually threatens to start a raucous party. Try Brother, self-produced in the Spring of 2009 in the mountains of northern New Mexico, blends earnest eyes-wide-open lyrics with delicate multi-instrumental arrangements. Their style draws on many influences, evoking classical chamber pop, down-home banjo folk rock, and soaring indie riffs in equal measures.

Home Slice Pizza is stoked to announce Music by the Slice 2011. This free day party (no rsvp, no badge required) runs March 17-19, from 1 PM to 7 PM daily. This year, for the first time, we are donating all of the profits from bar sales to charity!!!

The Midwest Music Foundation is proud to present the MidCoast Takeover, March 18th and 19th, 12pm-2am, at The Liberty showcasing over 30 acts from Kansas City, Lawrence, and the Midwest region.Partnering with Midwestern Indie label The Record Machine, music magazines PopWreckoning and INK, and Kansas City’s premiere live music venues The Record Bar, Crosstown Station, and The Riot Room, MidCoast Takeover will bring artists from Kansas City and the region to the national stage at South by Southwest.
Sponsored by Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing Company, (available on tap throughout the event) MidCoast Takeover promises two days of music, mayhem, and general debauchery-the definitive Midwestern musical throw down.
